Bronchial asthma is known as Tamaka Swasa in Ayurveda, and it is thoroughly detailed in Charaka Samhita. According to Ayurveda, the Vata and Kapha doshas are primarily responsible for swasa. 

A persistent inflammatory condition affecting the airways is bronchial asthma. It causes your airways to constrict, and swell and may create more mucus. This can make breathing challenging and cause coughing, shortness of breath, and wheezing when you exhale. 

Particularly at night or in the early morning, it results in recurring attacks of coughing, chest tightness, wheezing, and dyspnea. It can occur in adults, but it typically first appears in children and affects people of all ages.

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms of Asthma might differ from person to person. One might only experience symptoms occasionally, as when exercising, or might experience symptoms constantly.
Signs and symptoms of asthma include-

• Breathing difficulty.
• Chest discomfort or stiffness.
• When children with asthma, wheezing is a common symptom of the condition.
• Inability to fall asleep because of coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath.
• Attacks of coughing or wheezing made worse by a respiratory virus, such as the flu or a cold.

• Using a quick-relief inhaler more frequently.
• Increasing breathing difficulties as indicated by a lung function tester (peak flow meter).

CAUSES

According to Ayurveda, the following factors contribute to Tamaka Swasa:

• Excessive consumption of food that is dry, cold, heavy, incompatible, and irregular. consumption of aquatic animal meat, beans, sesame, and black gram.
• Consumption of cold beverages and exposure to chilly weather.
• Exposure to smoke, wind, and dust.
• Excessive physical exertion.
• Injury to the chest, throat, and other important organs.
